It is easy to hate a person you do not know. Celebrities, politicians, and reality T.V. stars are easy targets. They are impersonal and distant. So, when we perceive that they falter, we jump on them. We go for the jugular. They must pay.
Hopefully, we are not so vengeful towards those we know. It is impossible to hate a person you love. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that God came to earth as a baby. That He lived for us, died for us, and rose again. In so doing, he offered salvation to all people. Likewise, I believe He loved the Word of God. In fact, John 1 suggests that He was the living Word. And as a part of this, I believe sin is real. I do horrible things that hurt people and betray God. There are some sins I struggle with and others I do not. Nonetheless, I believe that greed, sex before marriage, homosexual sex, alcoholism, coveting, lust, selfishness, and pride are all sins. I believe all have fallen short, and that Jesus Christ, in His great mercy and love, offers forgiveness for all sins. Even more, I believe God loves you. I love you.
My dad wrote this today, and I think it is wise, "Also, if I don't approve of a behavior, it don't mean I got a phobia. Phobia is fear.
I'm not afraid of whatever your sin is.
It's my sin that I have to answer for, and so mine is the sin that terrifies me."
Furthermore, your sin and even your hatred of me and the things I hold dear, will in no way make me love you less. For my God loves you passionately. He loved you so much that He came from you.
The part of Christianity that makes everyone mad is the bad news. This is the part that speaks to all of us: we are wrong, we need help, and we can't do it on our own. The bad news sucks, and it is hard for everyone to accept. It is the belief that we are bad. The Bible says we were all made in the image of God. Yet, somewhere in the process, we became corrupted, selfish, and slaves to sin. Sin is a divisive word. It means literally to miss the mark, or likewise, to do wrong. It is hard for a person to say honestly that they've never done something wrong. We have all hurt people. We have all been selfish. So, we have all sinned. Christians are not better than other people. All who have accepted Christ have had to wrestle with this truth. But there is Good News. The Savior has come. His love is better than life, and He brings eternal life. We cannot be perfect on our own, but Christ's perfection is free. He longs to be our righteousness. In Him is joy and peace and love.
